DO NOT IRON your costumes but it’s okay to steam them. The best way to steam your costumes is to hang it upside down in the bathroom for several days to let the steam from your shower work it’s magic!

General Costume Notes

COSTUME TAKE HOME WEEK

Costumes will be sent home each night the week of May 6-11!

TIGHTS

Tights are provided with your costume if they are required. If your dancer needs tan tights for several classes, she will only receive one pair and you were only charged for one pair.

HAIR

All bangs must be off your face. Please use hair ties and bobby pins that match your hair! Hairnets make buns a lot easier! Be sure to secure all headpieces with lots of bobby pins. Ribbons stay in best when it’s pulled through the hair elastic and then tied.

SHOES

Ballet, Tap, Jazz & Lyrical shoes are all available in the studio.  THIS WEEK ONLY (May 13-19) – pre-order/pre-pay for your shoes and receive 18% your order (to celebrate 18 seasons)!

Jazz shoes should be slip-on – no ties please! All jazz shoes are tan unless otherwise noted. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work wonders to revitalize your shoes. Please no patent leather tied tap shoes.

EARRINGS

Earrings – if it says “yes” it’s the rhinestone earrings that the dance company wears and we have them available for $10 in the office. Otherwise, no earrings are allowed.

OTHER COSTUME TIPS

Please cut visible tags, no temporary tattoos or stamps. No nail polish on toes or fingers please! White french tips are ok for nails!

MAKEUP

Dancers* must have a basic stage makeup kit with…

  • Foundation
  • Black mascara
  • Black eyeliner
  • Red lipstick
  • Pink blush
  • Neutral Brown eyeshadows
  • Hair Brush
  • Hairspray
  • Bobby Pins to match your hair color
  • Hair Ties to match your hair color
  • Hairnet (if you need a bun)

We may make changes to the hair or shoe details after all of the costumes arrive. We will make changes to the costume chart so you have the most updated information for picture day and recital. Thank you!

At dress rehearsals, we take costume notes and will email you with any thoughts or changes. Please make note of those details for the actual show! These details help make our show look as professional as possible.

*Pre-school dancers DO NOT need the full makeup listed above. However, we do want them to have a little blush, lipstick and eye shadow so the audience can see their expressions – the lights wash out the dancers so they will look pale without anything. Plus putting on a little bit of mom’s makeup is part of the fun!
